Making Money Without

Beer Money. The team of Robert Roode and James Storm have been tagging together since 2008, and are currently enjoying their fourth reign as TNA World Tag Team Champions.

Each man came from a successful tag team to form perhaps the best tag team that TNA has ever seen. But where do they rank among the best of all time?

Despite fans’ many criticisms of TNA, including my own, it appears that historically the company does seem to care more about its tag team division than WWE does.

Roode’s former faction Team Canada, Storm’s former team America’s Most Wanted, along with Team 3D, LAX, The Voodoo Kin Mafia, The British Invasion, Generation Me, and The Motor City Machine Guns, have all vied for TNA tag team gold in recent years.

The division has thrived since the beginning of the company, and has been featured on TV and pay per view.

Then there’s WWE.

We all know that the current state of tag team wrestling in WWE is virtually non existent, with the championships currently held by Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov.

Bound together by necessity, which is a polite way of saying that WWE creative didn’t really have anything for either guy to do, Marella and Kozlov have actually looked pretty good since winning the straps.

Now, everyone calm down, I didn’t say they were The Road Warriors or anything.

But, for the WWE, we can’t really hope for much more than the tired old formula of two mix-matched guys thrown together for the sake of a lousy, half-hearted push. When it comes to their tag team division, it’s par for the course.

My, how things have changed in this business.

Once upon a time, the National Wrestling Alliance not only featured the greatest singles wrestlers in the sport, its tag team division was second to none with The Rock n Roll Express, The Road Warriors, The Russians, The Midnight Express, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew.

These guys perfected the art of tag team wrestling, and gave Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Ricky Steamboat a run for their money when it came to the best match on the card.

Man, where’s the Wayback Machine when you need it?

Of course, WWE hasn’t always neglected its tag team division.

Arguably the greatest era for tag team wrestling in WWE was 2000 to 2001. Three teams came together for a tag team war the likes of which had not been seen since the 1980’s NWA. Three teams redefined tag team wrestling in the business with three little words: tables, ladders, and chairs.

Edge and Christian. The Hardy Boyz. The Dudley Boyz. Three of the best tag teams of all time, blowing the roof off of arenas all over the country every week, each team pushing the other, bringing out the best in every man involved.

This was, without a doubt, a tag team renaissance, a great time for fans who yearned for a revival of the division.

These guys all understood their roles in the company, and fought to carve their names into wrestling history, next to the greatest teams ever. They also wanted to steal the show, and give fans something to remember.

Mission accomplished on both counts.

But with the focus shifted away from tag team wrestling in WWE, and TNA looking to grow as a company, the art of tag team wrestling now has a new pair of Rembrandts. Beer Money.

Yes, that was impossible to say without a smile.

The truth is, Beer Money works on a couple of different levels. One, because of Roode, who brings an intensity and ice-cold determination to his character and approach as a heel. Two, because of James Storm, because he’s funny as hell.

I love this guy. He is a riot, and every time he opens his mouth, or for that matter, just smiles at someone, it’s comedy gold. He makes the team, gives them a bad-boy edge that would make Jake Roberts jealous.

James Storm’s gimmick works so well because it’s so normal. He’s just a guy with a cowboy hat and dark glasses with a beer in his hand.

He looks less like a wrestler and more like the lead singer in a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band. He plays the part so well, and is more comfortable in his gimmick than perhaps anyone in the promotion.

For me, Storm would be a star in either company, on any level.

Fortunately for fans, right now he is one half of TNA’s biggest tag team, Beer Money. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoy this team and their work in the ring.

Aside from Storm’s comedy, the guy can work, and he is a great fit with Roode. Beer Money, in a lot of ways, is a throwback to the classic heel teams of the NWA.

They have the tough streak of The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, the finesse of The Midnight Express, and the swagger of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard.

And much like these three teams had memorable feuds with The Rock n Roll Express, Beer Money has had a momentous run against The Motor City Machine Guns.

The pace and tempo of the Guns, matched up against the fierce ground and pound of Beer Money, have made for some great moments in TNA. Both teams are working hard to own the night, every time they set foot in the ring.

That’s what tag team wrestling is all about, and I for one am glad to see it happening again. The only question I have is, how long will Beer Money stay together, before TNA creative, such as it is, decides to split them up?

It would be a shame if their run as one of the best teams in the company lasts only three years. Beer Money deserves to have a legacy, an opportunity to be considered among the all-time greats. But perhaps that is not meant to happen in TNA?

Considering that WWE gave up on its tag team division years ago, the chances of seeing Storm and Roode work for Vince appear to be slim to none.

But, if given a chance, I have to believe that not only would Beer Money make the best of it, they would do what they continue to do every week in TNA: steal the show.

It’s an interesting bit of speculation, when it comes to debating Beer Money’s place in tag team history. Perhaps it’s too soon for that. Perhaps as Storm and Roode continue to build their reputation week in and week out, we should just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Let the renaissance begin…again.

MeFites, my roommate is a mid-twenties free spirit who is a lovely spirit, generous to a fault, but has very little respect for others' things. When she moved in, I set the tone for our household to be one of sharing; I wanted to frequently share my dinners with her. I made it clear that things I own in common areas are fair game (kitchen stuff, etc). I've specified what is mine, what I choose not to share, what is NOT fair game for her use.

I love this roommate, but since the beginning, there has been major boundary crossing. My things go missing. My food, shampoo, mouthwash, household cleaners get used up. Worst of all, when I can't find things, she turns white and tells me they are at "so-and-so's house" and rushes off to get them.

When she ruined my good towels by using them at the school, she said, "Why do you need good towels anyway?! We're so spoiled in this country!" implying I was being selfish and materialistic. Guilting me for expecting my roommate to exercise normal, healthy respect for others' property.

I've had at least four "boundary clarification" talks with her. I have expressed that while I am happy to let her use my things IN OUR HOME, they are NOT to leave the house without my permission. I have clearly stated, "Hey, I am the one who gets to decide whether you use my belongings. You don't get to decide for me."

After a major episode when she lent my sewing box out to one neighbor and our vacuum to another, I set a tangible boundary to keep my things safe and put a lock on my bedroom door. But she STILL is taking things to the school where she works...things she presumes are "No big deal." My grandmother's rolling pin. My only nice set of dinner napkins (both now ruined or gone.) I've told her the next time I find something missing, rent will go up $50 a month for each missing thing (and that's in addition to her replacing what's gone.)

She offers me her food, to use her clothes or hair products, etc. "any time" which is lovely and generous and selfless...buys little presents, has offered to lend me money, helps and cleans up around the house, etc...and I genuinely like her as a person, but I'm really struggling with how to deal with this. In some ways, I feel like I'm dealing with a stubborn, incorrigible, spoiled teenager.

Please note: right now for various reasons, I cannot ask her to move out, so please help me come up with solutions to the situation I'm presently in.

Since being laid off, I have been seriously underemployed and barely paying the bills. I'm starting a new job next month so this stress will lighten soon, but in the last few months with her using up the little I have, it has been very difficult. Knowing she might be sneaking my shampoo and eating the food I bought for myself has been threatening my sense of well-being. I realize deep mistrust has set in.

I've said and done all the constructive things I can think of. But clearly, she doesn't "get it." Healthy boundaries and grownup considerations.

Can anyone help? I'm at my wit's end.

Here we are in 2010. As we are all making resolutions to behave better, improve our lives and be better neighbors, some of us may not stay neighbors for long given the realities that we have to deal with after exchanging best wishes for the New Year. Many families in the US today, some worse than others, are still dealing with the economic turmoil that the country has been in for a last couple of years. The once most valuable accomplishment, the source of joy and pride, the token of achievement of the "American" dream has turn into a nightmare for too many families. Homeowners are in jeopardy- of losing their homes, their hopes, their dream and some times their families as well.

    Reality Check ...

1- Facing foreclosure is not the end of the world. If it is the best option given your personal circumstances, there are ways to make it bearable. The sooner you face to problem the easier it will be for you and your family.

2- Few lending institutions want homes on their balance sheets. Foreclosure is not a type of property; it is simply a legal process by which a defaulted borrower is deprived of his or her interest in the mortgaged property.

3- The foreclosure process can take a couple of months or longer depending of your state of residence and the type of foreclose process it uses ; Judicial or non-Judicial. Non-judicial foreclosures generally take less time to complete than judicial foreclosures. This is because the borrower pre-authorizes the sale of the home in the loan document, which orders foreclosure upon default.

4- There are ways to avoid foreclosure and remain in you home. Foreclosure is a CHOICE!

Several optional are available to homeowners in financial hardship who chose to avoid foreclosure and find a way to mitigate the situation.

    1.Refinance

When homeowners realize that changes in their financial affairs may affect their ability to make timely payments, before falling behind, they can still be able to refinance their current loan. The Making Home Affordable initiative was launched in early 2009 to help homeowners who are current on their payments take advantage of today's mortgage rates by refinancing via the Home Affordable Refinance. This scenario applies to a few borrowers, who are not in default. More information about the program can be obtained the HAMP's website. The caveat is to be proactive and take advantage of existing program before being in default.

    2.Deed in lieu of Foreclosure

A deed in lieu occurs when the borrower and the lender agree to trade the property in exchange for the cancellation of the note. The lender gets the property and cancels the note. This alternative is more likely to work in states where the foreclosure process is long and the lender opts to take possession of the property sooner, which lessens the probability of the property being in disrepair and also eliminates the cost of foreclosure.

    3.Short Sale or Pre-foreclosure Sale

A short sale is a situation in which, in order to avoid foreclosure proceedings, the lender and servicer of the loan agree to accept the proceeds of the sale of the property, despite the fact that it may produce an amount below what is owed on the mortgage. In this case, the lender as not yet foreclosed on the property, which provides a window of opportunity for the owner to sell the property in order to, at least partially, satisfy the amount owed to the lender. This option is usually recommended for homeowners who have decided to move or who simply can no longer afford the existing mortgage payments. Short sales are usually preferable to foreclosures because they don't damage the distressed owner's credit as much and they lessen the adverse impact on the surrounding community.

Contact a decent realtor in your local area and get professional help. The National Association of Realtor has established a new certification to formally and properly train real estate agents on how to deal with borrowers in default, the lenders and/or servicers and market the property properly in order to mitigate the losses. Find a Short-Sale and foreclosure Specialist (SFR Certified) in your area and you should be in good hands.

    4.Loan Workout

A workout encompasses many options that distressed homeowners can choose from and present to their lenders in hope of reaching an agreement.

    (1) Forbearance is a plan that allows you to skip payments, or make partial payment if you have a reasonable plan to catch up. An anticipated income tax return may be a reason for your lender to grant forbearance. Inform your lender of expected disbursement of funds, bonus, or a new job.

    (2) Reinstatement refers to making a payment that covers all your late payments, which allows you to continue with the original payment schedule.

    (3) Repayment Plan usually allows you to add a particular amount to you monthly payment in order to catch up with the arrearages. The additional payment is deducted from the arrearages allowing you to become current after a certain number of payments.

    (4) Loan Modification is the process of modifying the terms of your existing loan in order to establish a payment agreement commensurate with your current financial abilities. A modification is very helpful to those in financial hardship. The payments are based on your current income and debt ratios regardless of credit score or payment history. This option should be at the top of the list of homeowners who are victims of the current economy and who desire to remain in their homes. A loan modification is a long and tedious process, and homeowners should be patient and remember that no guarantee is given by the lender. The bank, after several months, can denied or recommend payments that the borrower can not afford. The Making Home Affordable website offers more information about the process and how to find counseling and help at no cost. Many companies and law firms offer to assist a fee upward of $4000. The process requires constant contact with the lender, a thorough documentation of the financial hardship and ability and persistence which professionals and attorneys can indeed assist with. However, a persistent and dedicated homeowner, with the proper documentation can perform the same duty and often reach a favorable outcome.

    (5) Assumption is the method of transferring a house to a new buyer who agrees to take responsibility for (assumes) the existing mortgage. This option is rarely used since not all mortgages are assumable. This also requires permission from the lender approval of the new buyer by the lender under its guidelines. This option must first be discussed with the loan servicers and/or an attorney to avoid legal issues.

The foreclosure Alternative is another program established by the Obama Administration as part of the Making Home Affordable initiative. Borrowers who meet the eligibility criteria for Home Affordable Modification but don't qualify for a modification or did not complete the process may be considered for the Foreclosure Alternative. This program provides incentives and standardized documentation to help facilitate short sales or deed in lieu of foreclosure if short sales are not successful.

Some features of the program include:

    • Depending on the market conditions, 90 day up to one year to market and sell the property

    • No foreclosure may occur during the marketing period specified in the short sale agreement

    • Fees cannot be charged to borrowers by servicers, to participate in the program

    • Mortgage servicers cannot negotiate a lower commission with the real estate broker after an offer has been made ( which is an incentive for realtor to take short sale listing)

The incentives of the program are:

    • $1,000 for servicers for successful short sale or deed in lieu of foreclosure

    • $1,500 for borrowers/homeowners to help with relocation expenses

    • Up to $1,000 toward cost of paying junior lien holders(Second mortgage holder) to release liens

    Making Money Cash

Submitted by Taylor Cottam of Economy Politics

Another Call For The Fed To Raise Rates, So Big Banks Can Start Lending And Hiring Again

As we explained in our previous article Seeking an interest rate solution,
real interest rates are negative and nominal short term interest rates
are near zero. That is not healthy. What is a healthy interest rate? My
view is that short term rates should be above 1% to make them positive
and closer to 2%.  It has caused consumer credit to contract.

Of course, banks would argue that a healthy spread is the key to a
healthy banking sector.  Raising the rate would likely flatten the yield
    curve.  What gives?

    How banks really make money

Banks are not in the business of making loans per se.  They are in the
business of making more off their assets than their liabilities.  In
normal times, underwriting consumer and business loans are the best
avenue for them to pursue that goal.

Banks, and many hedge funds, really make money off the yield curve. They
have assets with a higher duration than their liabilities. Although
banks fund their assets with a mix of checking, demand deposits and some
longer dated term deposits (CDs), they have the ability to swap out
longer term deposits (CDs) to make their liabilities duration almost
zero. Their assets, which are typically loans to consumers and
businesses, have a longer duration.  Since the yield curve almost always
slopes upward, they make money off the yield curve spread plus the
    credit spread.

In 2008, I did some modeling for a large financial institution that had
duration of liabilities of roughly 3.5 years, based upon mostly term
deposits. They were able to bring the duration on their entire
liabilities portfolio down to a duration of less than 0.25 (3 months) by
transacting a simple fixed for floating amortizing swap based upon
their CD maturity schedule. Every quarter, with the 3 month rate sunk
below 25 bps, we would receive a large cash settlement from our
investment bank counterparty. I didn't stick for the full term of the
swap, but on a 1.5 BB principal, our estimate of earnings from the swap
alone stood at $100MM over three years. Based upon where short term
rates have stayed, they could have made 1.5 times that.

With our cost of capital below 25 bps, we did the thing that any
rational person would do.  We stopped lending to people and
businesses and lent to the US government instead.  We bought Treasuries.
In this case, the 5-year yields were above 2% bringing our expected
risk free spread above 2 points.

In 2008 and 2009, when it became obvious that Bernanke would likely
leave short-term rates low for an extended period of time, yield curve
risk became an afterthought. Those actions have been largely vindicated.
If we held the Treasuries for at least three years, the term of the
swap, we would just sit back and make money off the spread without
having to originate a single loan.

You get to be a bank, without having to do any work to originate loans.
Who needs a large origination group, when you can make a ton of money
and fire half of your employees?

    Pushed or Pulled into Treasuries

During the recession there was often talk of a flight to quality.
Investors would flee risky assets and go into something safe. However,
investors are not always being pushed, they are often pulled. During the
recession, we began seeing a very steep yield curve. The spread
investors are as much lured by the allure of easy money with a steep
yield curve as they are by the fear of risky assets.

Thousands of writers have tried it, making money on Associated Content and Helium that is. With both websites there is the potential for making a good amount of money if you put forth the effort. On the flip side of things, this strategy of making money isn't for everyone, only one type of person can be successful at this, good writers.

Sadly, many have not discovered the secrets of one, or both of these amazing websites. Contrary to popular believe, Associated Content and Helium are completely different in various aspects. For example, Helium only pays it's members once they've reached $25 bucks, and even then you can only retrieve money from your account at the start of the month.

    Upfront Payments-

One of the biggest upsides to Associated Content is the fact that you can submit articles for upfront payment review. If approved these articles will usually fetch you around $3.00 to $20.00 dollars depending on quality of the work and what the topic is. In the event that your article is indeed rejected for an upfront payment, then you're able to edit it if you wish. If your article is accepted, you can have the cash sent to you within days.

Recently, Helium also added a upfront payment feature to their website. Which works almost like their Summer Reward-A-Thon promotion worked, payments are calculated by the number of articles the person wrote times the number of Writing Stars the person has. For example a person with 5 Writing Stars on their profile means they maintain a high quality in present articles, but earn about $2.50 per article at the end of the month.

Furthermore, a person with 1 star would make about 50 cents per article. It's very easy to earn Writing Stars, however it takes a set number of articles to gain Writing Stars while maintaining the quality. In retrospect, a person with 10 articles couldn't have 5 Writing Stars, only writers with 500 or more articles can have 5 Writing Stars.

    Revenue Share/Performance Payments-

Both Helium and Associated Content offer the potential to earn money from page views to articles. On Associated Content, 1000 page views equals about a $1.50 in earnings. Writers with a higher clout level can earn up to 2.00 for each 1000 page views. Word has it that many writers on Associated Content make over a few hundred a month.

On the flip side of things Helium also has a similar program. Writers are able to earn money from page views, but the system doesn't work the same as Associated Content. The very design of Helium is all about competition, and writing better articles then others. With each article, someone can come along and write something better, and the earnings for that particular "title" are split between you and that person.

Also, on Helium you are unable to see how many page views you've received. You can only see how much money you've received due to those page views. Only certain subjects seem to earn great amounts of money from page views, which is subject of how popular the subject is, and the advertisers.

    MarketPlace/Calls for Content-

On Associated Content, they have a program called "Calls for Content" which names subjects for a person to write on, guidelines for that subject, and what the site will pay for that article. Helium also has a similar program, publishers request for Helium writers to create articles on certain subjects, and typically pay much more then Associated Content Calls for Content if your article is picked.

    Tips-

If you want to make some decent money, write for both Helium and Associated Content. Helium has some pretty nice contests where you compete with other writers, who wins the contests is based on what the entire community says. Everyone at Helium can rate articles, and a person can't rate their own articles so things are pretty fair.

Writers will want to know both websites very well to figure out what subjects work well for them, and how that understanding of the subject can make them money. At the end of the day, both websites have their ups and down's, and may have a person pulling their hair out, but hang in there.
